Reacquiring Moldovan citizenship

  Step 1. Submitting the application

  The application for reacquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova may be submitted in person or through a proxy, the latter having a power of attorney authenticated by a notary or other persons authorized by law to such function, in the following ways:

  • at the Service for Issuing Identity Documents (SIID), including within the Multifunctional Centre within whose territorial jurisdiction the applicant has established his/her domicile and/or temporary residence;
  • and in the case of a person with legal and habitual domicile abroad - at the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office of the Republic of Moldova (DMCO) or at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.

  Step 2. Paying for the service

  Payment of the tariff for the requested service through the Government Electronic Payment Service MPay.

  Step 3. Processing and Examination

  1. Taking the facial image and scanning the signature. 
  2. Drawing up the electronic form and printing the G1 application-questionnaire. 
  3. Registering the documents (chancellery). 
  4. Sending the information in electronic format and the application with the set of documents in paper format to DIDNPR. 
  5. Processing the G1 form by the Information Register Update Section. 
  6. Verification of the respective application and the set of related documents and its coordination with the General Inspectorate for Migration and the Security and Intelligence Service. 
  7. Forwarding the respective application and the set of related documents to the Commission for Citizenship and Political Asylum Issues under the President of the Republic of Moldova for examination according to its competences.
  8. Issuing the Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova on the approval of the reacquisition of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.

  Step 4: Execution of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova on the approval of the reacquisition of Moldovan citizenship

  Drawing up the attestation on the approval of the reacquisition of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova and handing it over: 

  • at the SIID, including the Multifunctional Centre within the territorial jurisdiction of which the applicant has established his/her domicile and/or temporary residence; 
  • and in the case of a person with legal and habitual residence abroad - at the DMCO or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.
