Subsequent registration of civil status act

The service of subsequent registration of civil status act is provided in order to ensure the registration of birth and death acts in the event of failure to register the respective facts within the terms provided by law. 

The subsequent registration of civil status acts is a special procedure carried out by compiling the relevant file and issuing a notice by the civil status service, which is approved by the subdivision of the Public Services Agency designated for this purpose. 

Subsequent registration of birth acts may take place only if the documents required by law are submitted to confirm that the birth act in the name of the person concerned has not been drawn up by the time the application is submitted. 

Subsequent registration of birth acts shall be carried out in the following cases: 

  • the birth was declared one year after the event occurred;
  • the birth act was not drawn up by the civil registrar, although the necessary documents were submitted. 

Categories of applicants (subsequent registration of the birth act): 

  • In the name of a child or a person of full age in respect of whom legal guardianship measures are imposed: the legal representative (parents or one of the parents/guardian or curator); a person empowered by notarial power of attorney by the child's parents; the guardianship authority.
  • On behalf of persons of full age, for subsequent registration of birth: the person concerned (for the birth).

Subsequent registration of death acts may take place only if the documents required by law to confirm that the death act in the name of the person concerned has not been drawn up by the time the application is submitted are presented.

Subsequent registration of civil status act shall be carried out in the following cases: 

  • the death is declared one year after the date on which the event occurred;
  • the civil registrar omitted to draw up the act, although the necessary documents were submitted. 

Categories of applicants (subsequent registration of the death act): 

  • relatives of the deceased;
  • family members of the deceased; authorized person.

    The application for the subsequent registration of the civil status record is submitted by the applicant to the civil status service in the area of residence, including the multifunctional centre of the Public Services Agency.

    Step 3. Processing and Examination

    Receipt of the application and materials relevant to the subsequent registration of the civil status record (birth or death).

    Checking the existence in the archives of the civil status record concerning the same legal fact.

    Compiling the file, issuing the decision to approve or reject the application for subsequent registration of the civil status act.

    Forwarding the file for examination to the competent subdivision of the Civil Status Department.

    Approval or rejection of the decision on the subsequent registration of the birth or death certificate and forwarding the file to the CSD.

    Registration of the birth or death act in the information system.

    Issuing the birth or death act and the corresponding civil status certificate.

    Step 4. Release/refusal of release

    Signing the birth or death act and handing over the civil status document at the CSD counter, including at the multifunctional centre of the Public Services Agency. 

    If the application for subsequent registration of the civil status act is rejected, the applicant will be issued with a notice of the impossibility of subsequent registration of the birth or death act.
